Little Black Dress

Monday 30 January 2017

I feel like we just celebrated 2017 and with a blink of an eye we are already at the end of January! Time is sure flying and I don’t know if it is going at an even crazier rate than usual since I’m home with a newborn and toddler but it needs to seriously slow down! With February around the corner I thought I’d share a few looks for Valentine’s day or any other night out with your loved one.

The little black dress is a classic go-to for any occasion and is one of my essential must haves for anyone’s wardrobe. Typically, I love a well fitted one that hugs in all the right places but I’ve switched it up for this fabulous number. Being almost three months postpartum I feel like my body is still mending and hasn’t quite bounced back to where I’d like to be. I love how this dress has a deeper v-neck that gives a very feminine feel but is not overly busty looking and perfectly paired with this delicate lariat necklace. If you’re planning on going out after work this could easily be work appropriate by adding a lace camisole underneath. I also recommend looking for a dress that incorporates various textures to give more dimension! Hope you enjoyed this post and stay tuned for more date outfits!

You Da Bomb

Monday 23 January 2017

This weekend I was lucky enough to get tickets to the Interior Design Show from Leslie from @thelesliestyle! If you aren’t already following her on Instagram I highly suggest you do as she really has the dreamiest home and has great home inspiration to get anyone in the mood to change and create a dream space.

We are currently going through our own home renovations and tackling our unfinished basement. With our growing family we’ve realized how much more room we need as the toys are taking over our space! So the timing could not have been more perfect to get the opportunity to check out the latest for more inspiration. I have to give a big shout out to my husband who has so much love and patience for me as he had set out to do some flooring for the weekend but agreed to an impromptu trip up to Toronto!

I must say it was a very foggy weekend but was quite mild. It is so weird to see mid January with NO snow! I recently purchased a bomber jacket from Winners and love how versatile this jacket is! I paired it with an olive blouse with ripped jeans and sneakers to give a more sophisticated street vibe.

Before the show we had an incredible lunch at the Amsterdam Brewery at the waterfront and enjoyed some brews. My husband and I would have to agree that the highlight of the meal was our appetizer that our waiter had suggested, Buffalo Cauliflower! I know you may be thinking that sounds weird but my goodness between the amazing buffalo sauce and perfectly battered and fried cauliflower you wouldn’t think you were eating a vegetable!

After lunch we walked over to the Interior Design Show and we were totally impressed and inspired! There was so much to see and do! Although I missed seeing Leslie at the Canadian Tire booth I found it to be one of my favourites as it was totally interactive with an amazing paint wall of Toronto that was number coordinated! This gave us the opportunity to play with their new paint line called Premier that only requires one coat! I loved all the vibrant colours that were displayed! I’m totally thinking of grabbing some for Linden’s toddler room remodel that I’ll be tackling after the basement!

After the show we did a trip to good old Ikea and grabbed some organizational pieces to declutter our space and we also decided on a couch for the basement that I can’t wait to share! All in all I loved being able to leave the city for the weekend and get inspired! Hope you all had a great weekend!

Carried Away

Friday 6 January 2017

They say that no two children are alike and goodness were they ever right! Since having our second baby girl this past November things have been a little busier, juggling a toddler and newborn can get kind of hectic. With our first the Ergo was our go to baby settler which kept me hands free and able to multitask. This time around our sweet Maren wasn’t really into the Ergo (although I have not lost hope for later as it’s a great carrier) and so I researched into other options. Holding a newborn is essential and meaningful but super difficult to do while you have another little human who needs you just as much as your new babe.
I had known about ring slings before but never really indulged with Linden as she was perfectly happy with the carrier that we had. With Maren I was able to reach out to Julie, owner of ConnexionBaby who was kind enough to send me the prettiest ring sling. Her slings are made of 100% linen and comes in some dreamy colours. Being a pretty neutral person I gravitated towards the natural ring sling. This colour works perfectly with really any kind of outfit and the bonus of being a colour my husband can also wear.
Coming from an Ergo carrier that is so structured I felt a little worried that Maren wouldn’t feel as comfortable but after some practicing and help from the husband I was able to get her snuggled right into me which put her to sleep in minutes! It was honestly amazing! The material is light weight and breathable and once secured hugs your baby so nice and close, its no wonder she fell asleep!

I’ve had this sling for about two weeks and its really been a miracle worker. I have been able to get her in and out of the sling on my own with really no issues and remains super comfortable to wear. So far she’s been in the upright position but I plan on learning all the different ways including breastfeeding positions. The beauty of this carrier is that you can use this right from birth and can hold up to 35lbs which means my toddler can easily be worn too! This sling has definitely become a quick baby favourite of mine!
